Jordan's Wishing Well

A place where hope lives.

I am approaching the end of my first year of raising awareness for clean water, funding wells, and collecting toothbrushes and paste.  This year has brought many speaking engagements and lots of exciting opportunities.  The most exciting thing is that today two villages, Duo and Goba, near Camphor Mission Station are going to have clean water when their wells are finished.   One should be ready by this weekend, and the other will be dug next week!

This muddy water is where villagers go to get their water currently.  Ted Babcock is helping with the wells on his visit.

Hi, my name is Jordan Martin.  I am thirteen years old.  Last year when I learned that there are children in Africa who brush their teeth with their fingers and ashes, I was moved to do something to help.  Reaching out to family and friends, I was able to collect over 300 toothbrushes and 75 tubes of toothpaste in just over 4 weeks.

In the beginning of March 2009, I listened as missionary, Kathy Dickriede, spoke about the need for more clean water in Liberia.  A well costs approximantely $2,000.  Once again, I decided to put a plan into action to help with this endeavor.

I thought if I could make a product and ask for donations, I would be able to bring in enough money to fund a well.  I love to scrapbook and the fact that my mom had boxes of scrapping supplies, I knew immediately that home-made greeting cards would be the perfect item.

My plan to ask for donations for the cards at a home-party, school, and church was the start of Wishing Well Cards and the inspiration behind my website.

A special thanks goes out to the Reese family at PIP Printing in Mentor for their help with making Christmas cards this year.  I was able to sell over 100 sets of cards which helped me reach the goal of enough money for a second water well.
The missionary who inspired me is Kathy Dickriede.  She returned to the Camphor Mission Station in Liberia, Africa in September of 2009 and will make her way back to Ohio in June of 2010.  Follow this link to keep updated on her travels:  www.rosemarkafrica.blogspot.com

100% of the donations for cards goes towards the funding of wells thanks to the very generous donation of card-making supplies from Colorbok.
